Richard Hedges had made a very good living from the brewery business and it enabled him to plan for his retirement and build his own grand house. So he built Haywood House, a short distance away at 156 High Street North and lived there happily after he retired.
In the late 1930’s a new White Horse building was constructed behind and away from the road and the old one was demolished.
