Area 7.2 129 High Street North, The Old Store

The name of 129 gives a clue to the former use of these premises – the Old Store. Mrs Heley ran a general store here whilst her husband Joshua, had a carrier business. He would drive his horse and cart to Leighton Buzzard on Tuesdays and Fridays and to Aylesbury on Wednesdays and Saturdays. He would take passengers and also do errands for villagers whilst in those towns. On returning from WW1 his son Fred Heley took over the business and bought a motor van, the very first in the village.
