Stewkley best kept village

Best Kept Village Winners 2019

After a year of holding the runners up position in the Best Kept Village contest 2018, Stewkley is once again ahead of the pack having won the DeFraine Cup, 2019.

Stewkley has regularly entered the Buckinghamshire Best Kept Village competition and this year competed with villages of 1501-3000 residents for the DeFraine Cup. Over the past few years, we have been very successful in this competition winning the DeFraine Cup and the Tindall Cup (the cup for previous category winners), on several occasions. Last year Stewkley was runner-up for the Tindall Cup, losing out to Cuddington.

Cllr Higgins congratulated the village on its recent success in winning the De Fraine Cup. He called it “a huge team effort”.

Cllr Bottomley was selected to receive the BKV DeFraine Cup. He has been the driving force behind the new Stewkley Audio Tour . Also, in common with many other residents, he has rolled his sleeves up and helped helped refresh some areas that the judges would examine.

The judges’ scores reflected a high standard in all areas. They noted that the hanging baskets demonstrated a village that goes ‘the extra mile’. As is now traditional, teams of litter pickers were mobilised by Village organisations and local parishioners ensured that kerbs were tidied and well presented. The SEA which cuts the grass on the verges reached a high standard at the time of the judges’ appraisal.
