A few weeks ago the volunteer speed watch team were out on the Stewkley streets checking on the cars which have a tendency to speed into and through our village.
Over a five day period, which translated into 11 separate speed watch sessions each of 2 hours duration, a total of 146 speeders were recorded with speeds up to 53mph.
All these speeding violations are video recorded and then passed over to the Thames Valley Police. They then write to each of the offenders with a warning letter and this is filed so that any future speeding offence can be tracked. Persistent offenders are then prosecuted by the police with points and fine penalties.
Speed watch is entirely voluntary. We are always looking for more volunteers and so if you feel you could spare some time, even on an occasional basis, then please give your details to the Parish Clerk on this link.
